Oil painting on canvas, Sir John Borlase, 1st Bt, MP (1619-1672) by Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641), 1637-38. A three-quarter-length portrait of the husband of Anne Bankes, wearing black slashed doublet and large white lace shoulder-collar, his left hand on his hip, his right arm resting on a plinth.

Presumably given to the sitter's father-in-law, Chief Justice Sir John Bankes (1589 - 1644), and thence by descent, until bequeathed by Ralph Bankes, 1981
