Summary
A black lacquer and brass mounted cabinet on a giltwood stand. The cabinet Japanese Export, late 17th century, the stand English, late 17th century. The exterior of the cabinet decorated with lacquer, with figures, buildings and birds. Mounted with engraved gilt hinges, angles and lock-plate. With drop-handles, enclosing a fitted interior of drawers. The stand with canted scrolled legs, joined by a deep frieze carved with foliage, flower heads and berries.
Provenance
Bequest of the estates of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy made to the National Trust by Henry John Ralph Bankes (1902-1981). NT ownership commenced from 19th August 1982.
