Summary
Gold and white opalescent enamel gum pot, c.1908, made by Henrik Wigström for Fabergé. Of compressed circular shape, translucent white enamelled on an engraved wavy guilloche field, the aperture in a two colour gold engraved wreath surround, the removable pink gold brush holder with fluted gold cap extending to a polished pink foiled moonstone cabochon finial. Bearing workmaster’s mark HW for Henrik Wigström, 56 stamp on the body of the brush holder and additional signature on the wreath. Original fitted Hollywood case, the inner silk lining stamped ‘Faberge; St Petersburg; Moscow; London', see NT1247547.
Provenance
Purchased by Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia (1861-1929) from Fabergé’s London branch on 28 November 1908 for £7.15s (inventory number 15016). The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943. This item found on the record for Polesden Lacey miniatures and small objects in the strong room, page 118.
