Summary
Oil or vinegar pourer, modelled in the shape of a parrot, tin-glazed earthenware (maiolica), probably made by the Patanazzi workshop, Urbino about 1560-1600. Painted in yellow, blue, brown, green and black. Stopper still inside.

Alexander Barker Collection, purchased en bloc by Sir Francis Cook, pre 1862. Cook Collection sale (Sir Francis Cook, Bt, and Humphrey Wyndham Cook), Christies, 7 July 1925, Lot 107. Purchased by Tancred Borenius (presumably on behalf of Mrs. Greville), with two other parrot figures (POL/C/31-32) for £110.5s. (see Polesden Lacey contents file no. 375, Polesden Lacey Archives) The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943.
