Summary
Engraving, Diogenes in search of an Honest Man (after Salvator Rosa) by William Sharp (London 1749 - Chiswick 1824), 1792. A bearded man carrying a lantern, surrounded by three figures. Inscribed bottom: Published 1st April 1792 by W.M.Sharp, London. The original painting was in the Museum of Art, San Diego, California (ex John Knight 1820/30s) until sold at Sotheby's New York, 15th Janury 1987 as Dutch School, 17th century.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
