Summary
Oil painting on board, The Snowy Corries of Ben y Bourd, Braemar, September 20, 1856 (as inscription), by Charles Grey (Greenock 1808-1892), signed and dated, bottom right: C. Grey. RHA/ 1857. A vast, mountainous landscape, with two hunters sitting in the foreground by a dead stag and a dead tree. This painting is recorded as being at Powerscourt House in 1903 by Viscount Powerscourt in his Description and History of Powerscourt, when the landscape hung in the Library, along with another painting by Charles Grey called "Merry Days in Glenisla, 1855".
Provenance
Accepted by HM Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the National Trust, 2013. This painting is recorded as being at Powerscourt House in 1903 by Viscount Powerscourt in his Description and History of Powerscourt, when the landscape hung in the Library, along with another painting by Charles Grey called "Merry Days in Glenisla, 1855".
