Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Alexander Stewart of Ards (1746-1791) by Pompeo Girolamo Batoni (Lucca 1708 – Rome 1787), signed and dated: P. Batoni ROMAE PINXIT ANNO 1773. A three-quarter-length portrait, turned to the right, of the younger son of Alexander Stewart of Mount Stewart and Mary Cowan, holding a hat and wearing a brown coat, with a lace-trimmed collar.

By descent in the family of the sitter; the Marquess of Lodonderry, Wynyard Park, Billingham-on-Tees, Durham and at Londonderry House, London; presented with Mount Stewart to the National Trust by Lady Mairi Bury in 1977
