Summary
A mahogany ladderback chair, one of a group of ten similar chairs, British or Irish, second half 18th century. With shaped and grooved uprights joined by three pierced and shaped horizontal back splats, the top rail similarly carved with scrolling ends, the drop-in seat upholstered in pink rose damask, the front seat rail applied with a carved decorative motif, the front square-section legs with carved and indented outer corners and with carved corner brackets, the rear gently splayed square-section rear legs connected to the front with a plain H-stretcher, the rear legs joined by a single plain stretcher.
