Summary
A walnut corner armchair, English, circa 1730-1750. With horseshoe shaped flattened armbow raised on two solid vase splats flanked by turned columns, the square velvet seat standing on three turned legs and a front cabriole leg with pad foot, alterations.
Provenance
An original invoice (held at West Sussex Record Office MS 319) would appear to refer to this chair and accounts for the very evident repair work. From Charles Sale, Antique Furniture Dealer, etc., 60 Church Street, Kensington, July 20th 1894: 'Altering commode corner chair, cutting down side pieces, corner blocking same, and making new seat, upholstering same and covering in calico. 15s.0d.'
