Summary
Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Man called Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Alban (1561-1626), British (English) School, inscribed 'Sir Francis Bacon' top left, in yellow letters, top right and the date 'Anno 1613'. A three-quarter-length portrait of a man turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, standing, holding a staff of office in his left hand. His black, brimmed hat has a tall crown. He has a moustache and spade beard wears a ruff. His black doublet shows a white cuff and his black cloak has a brown fur collar. He wears the insigna of a Knight of the Garter hung on a blue ribbon around his neck.
