Summary
Oil painting on panel, Supposedly Charles de Gontaut, duc de Biron (1562-1602), Netherlandish School, inscribed, top right: 1613. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young man, facing, gazing at the spectator, rests his left hand on a chair arm. His right hand is placed on his hip and holds a pair of white gloves. His black gown is embroidered with a light design of black flower-sprigs. A gold belt encircles his waist. He wears a compound ruff and white cuffs, edged with pointed lace. His hair is cut short and he has a small moustache. Inscribed 'Duc De Biron' top left. White catalogue number '76' l.r.
