Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Robert Walpole, 1st Earl of Orford KG, MP (1676-1745) after Hans Hysing (Stockholm 1678 – London 1753). Full-length portrait, turned to the left gazing at the spectator, in a full-bottomed powdered wig, wearing his robes as Chancellor of the Exchequer over a grey coat with silver frogging, to which is pinned the star of a Knight of the Bath, to which he was elected in 1725. He wears a glove over his left hand while his right hand gestures to a book on the crimson covered tablecloth.
