Summary
Wood, Chimneypiece, Library, Oxburgh Hall, Norfolk, possibly designed by J. C. Buckler. The overmantel was made up from Medieval carved woodwork from continental churches, the sides incorporate figures from a Tree of Jesse. The canopy above of complex medieval tabernacle work. Inserted onto plain backboard. c.1500, possibly imported by Pugin.
Provenance
Part of the Bedingfeld Collection. The house was given to the National Trust in 1952 by Sybil, Lady Bedingfeld (1883-1985), her daughter Mrs Greathead, and her niece Violet Hartcup.
