Summary
An oak and upholstered hall bench, Flemish, dated 1686 The top rail with floral scrolled frieze surmounted by a pair of winged angels holding a shield and the corners with angels above arms terminating with further carved angels. The padded back and seat raised on conforming legs and lions paw feet. Upholstered in pressed or stamped patterned wool plush on seat, inside back and arms. Simple ribbed gimp braid to hide fixings. Once blue all now faded to brown.

Collection of Violet Hartcup, subsequently bequeathed to Mrs Maitland Nimmo, and loaned to the National Trust by her daughter, Mariella Norman.
