Summary
Oil painting on panel, The Israelites after the Crossing the Red Sea with Joseph's Corpse in the Tomb, after Frans Francken II (Antwerp 1581 - Antwerp 1642), 1640-60 The biblical scene shows in the centre the sarcophagus of Joseph, referred to in Exodus 13:19; "And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him..." and the event related in Joshua 24: 32. A mass of people depicted on the left, the prominent figure of Moses and a group of mothers with young children in the foreground. A huge arc of a wave of water is turning on the mounted soldiers in the background on the right. Companion to NT 1196059.
