Summary
Steel spear head with deeply chiselled decoration depicting two mythical birds with long snouts and scaly necks snarling at each other over a central rib at the forte of the curving blade. The ferrule with three projecting collars and decorated with narrow borders of incised arches. South India, 17th century.
Provenance
Brought to Powis Castle from Walcot Hall in 1930. Purchased by the National Trust from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and the Powis Estate Trustees in June 2010.
