Summary
Steel spear head, with deeply chiselled and pierced decoration, the blade divided into two distinct areas by a raised border which truncates the deep fullers. A central rib at the forte embellished with masks with projecting features, and at either side scaly beasts with leonine bodies and bird-like heads framed by three curving ribs, the centre one having the same bride-like head. The ferrule with three projecting collars (two Bulbous). South India, 17th century.
Provenance
Brought to Powis Castle from Walcot Hall in 1930. Purchased by the National Trust from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and the Powis Estate Trustees in June 2010.
