Summary

Oil painting on canvas, One of Four Battle Scenes: An Engagement on a Bridge outside a Fort, manner of Pieter Snayers (Antwerp 1592 – Brussels 1667). With bridge on right of picture, leading to the castle gatehouse. the opposing armies engaged in fighting on the bridge.

Provenance

Recorded in the Library in the 1891 inventory as 'Set of 4 Paintings - The Siege of Ludlow Castle by Wonverman'. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
