Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Mary Herbert (née Preston), later Marchioness and (titular) Duchess of Powis (d.1724), attributed to Charles d'Agar (Paris 1669 – London 1723), c.1695. A full-length portrait of the daughter of Sir Thomas Preston Bt, and wife of the Hon. William Herbert, later 2nd Marquess of Powis whom she married c. 1685, in long blue drapery, pointing to her left with her left hand, with a red terracotta urn behind her.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963. Recorded at Powis Castle in Montgomery Collections Vol VI P.148 in 1873.
