Summary
Areca nut cutters, part of a pan set. Silver with a steel blade. Decorated with floral motifs filled with red, blue, green and yellow translucent and opaque enamels; the handles set with red and green foiled glass. Ensuite with other pieces of the same pan set. Lucknow, late 18th/early 19th century.
Provenance
Recorded in 1944 Inventory as ‘A 6½in engraved bowl pierced cover set with gems, an enamelled Indian cutter, 2, 2½in Indian gilt bowls spoons and covers, jewel decorations on stand with glass shade' in Tapestry Drawing Room (Blue Drawing Room). Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
