Summary
Sword with curved watered steel blade and single broad, shallow fuller; the steel hilt overlaid with scrolled decoration in two colours of gold on the langet, guard and quillons; the knuckle guard terminating in a tiger's head. The tilted disc-pommel, slightly concave, with a low dome and lotus bud knop, pierced to hold a cast swivel. The hilt and blade both with Persian inscription, see catalogue pg.48. Mughal, late 17th century.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
