Summary
Bone thumb ring with piece of shaped, red leather attached. Attached to the quiver by a length of linen or cotton cord. Hyderabad, India, late 18th century. Possibly the 'hluk' or 'hleik' referred to by G G Keble in a letter to Edward Clive on 20 Oct 1804 (British Library, MSS Eur G37/71/1)
Provenance
Collected by Edward Clive (1854-1839). A letter from G.G. Keele to Lord Powis dated 1804 '...to convey to your L/ship a Bow & Quiver of Arrows from Hyperbad...' Purchased by the National Trust with funding from The National Heritage Memorial Fund from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and Powis Estate Trustees in August 1999.
