Summary
Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Lady, called Anne Carr, Duchess of Bedford (1615-1684), English School, circa 1650. A portrait of a lady, not Countess of Bedford, but shown wearing a dark dress with pearl necklace ear rings and head ornament, her right arm curving towards her face, half length portrait.
Provenance
The portrait would have come to the Paget family through the marriage of Thomas Catesby, Lord Paget 1689-1742) to Lady Elizabeth Egerton (d.1736), daughter of the 3rd Earl of Bridgewater (1646-1701). Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust for display at Plas Newydd, 2016.
