Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Frances Brooke, Lady Whitmore (1640 - c.1690) after Sir Peter Lely (Soest 1618 - London 1680), 18th century. The original of which is in the Royal Collection, circa 1665. A three-quarter-length portrait of the mother of Frances Whitmore (1666 - c.1695) who married Sir Richard Myddelton, 3rd Bt.; daughter and co-heir , with her sister Lady Denham, of Sir William Brooke. She was married firstly, before 1668, to Sir Thomas Whitmore, KB, of Apley (1639 - 1682) [Picture No 35] to whom she bore Frances, Lady Myddelton [Picture No 22].
Provenance
Acquired in 1994 by the National Museum of Wales, with the aid of a special grant from the Secretary of State for Wales, so that they should remain on indefinite loan to Chirk Castle
