Oil painting on canvas, William III (1650-1702), as Prince of Orange, in Garter Robes, manner of Sir Peter Lely (Soest 1618 – London 1680), circa 1682. A three-quarter-length portrait of William, Prince of Orange, to right, in Garter robes, as a young man, standing, turned three-quarters to right, head turned to and gazing at spectator, wearing full-bottomed wig, lace cravat, and Garter robes, the right hand on hip, the left arm resting on a plinth. Based on original portrait by Lely of William as Prince of Orange, in armour, at Syon House.

Provenance
A set of six Garter portraits at Chirk possibly acquired as perquisites by Frances Whitmore, Lady Myddelton (1666 - 1694) when Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Anne, before she became queen in 1683 and brought to Chirk on Frances's own marriage in 1686 and thence by descent; With some of the contents, in 1978, that were acquired along with Chirk Castle from Lt-Col Ririd Myddelton (1902–1988) by the National Land Fund and handed, on loan for 99 years, to the Secretary of State for Wales (In 1981 Chirk was transferred into the ownership of the National Trust) On loan to the Trust from Guy Charles Myddelton. Gifted to Guy C Myddelton from Captain David Myddelton in 2010. Purchased by the National Trust from Mr Guy Myddelton in 2023.
