Summary
A takamakie lacquer cabinet, Japanese, circa 1675, raised on a later japanned stand, Norther European, circa 1700. The cabinet's doors decorated with a landscape scene of trees and a lake, a rider astride a buffalo and a building, and fitted with chased copper hinges, corner clasps and escutcheon. The cabinet fitted to the interior with one long, seven short and two square drawers, and mounted to the sides with carry handles, and with low, flared skirt support. The later stand with a triple-panelled frieze japanned with buildings, trees and butterflies, and with panelled ends. Riased on four turned baluster supports on blocks and turned ball feet. All joined by an 'X'-shaped stretcher.

Provenance
Amongst the chattels that, in 1978, were acquired along with Chirk Castle from Lt-Col Ririd Myddelton (1902–1988) by the National Land Fund and handed, on loan for 99 years, to the Secretary of State for Wales. In 1981 Chirk was transferred into the ownership of the National Trust. On loan to the Trust from Guy Charles Myddelton. Gifted to Guy C. Myddelton from Captain David Myddelton in 2010. Purchased by the National Trust from Mr Guy Myddelton in 2023.
