Erddig 1800-29 Inventory of contents of Erddig, 1800-1829, "Captn: Meoles", listed amongst the "Board Pictures" Steegman 1957 John Steegman, A Survey of Portraits in Welsh Houses, Vol.I: North Wales, Cardiff, 1957, p.97 "PORTRAITS AT ERDDIG, WREXHAM ADDITIONAL PORTRAITS 28. Unidentified Man, called EARL OF LINDSEY, Jacob Frans van Merck, 1649; signed and dated. Panel. A youngish man; HL to r., in a painted oval; wearing armour with orange shoulder sash. Tablet on frame inscribed "Bertie, Earl of Lindsay". The 1st Earl died in 1642, aged about 60. If this represents an Earl of Lindsey it must be Montague Bertie, 2nd Earl. The signature is indistinct, but is confirmed by that on no.29; the date 1649 is clear."
