Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Still Life with Parrot and Fruit, manner of Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer (Lille 1636 – London 1699), [attributed to artist William Jones of Bath (fl. Bath - 1782) in 2010 by Alastair Laing, former National Trust Curator of Pictures and Sculpture] and also previously attributed to Joris van Son (Antwerp 1623 - 1667). A parrot perched on a branch is pecking at some grapes, which with other fruit, rests on a stone ledge with a bullfinch and bluetit.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973. In inventory of the late James Hutton in Park Lane, 27/28 July 1770 as; 'A Fruit Piece'; in undated Erddig inventory (circa 1820, at time of cleaning), early 19th century as 'Fruit Piece and Birds' and thence by descent; given by Philip Yorke III (1905 – 1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
