Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Still Life with Peaches, manner of Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer (Lille 1636 – London 1699) [attributed to artist William Jones of Bath (fl. Bath 1764 - 1782) in 2010 by Alastair Laing, former National Trust Curator of Pictures and Sculpture]. An upright view of peaches on a ledge, a bunch of grapes hanging above, and other fruit and flowers.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973. In inventory of the house of the late James Hutton (uncle of Philip Yorke I (1743 – 1804) and whose father was the collector Matthew Hutton (d. 1728)), in Park Lane, 27-28 July 1770 as: " A Fruit Piece by Baptist [struck through]; in undated 19th century Erddig inventory as: "Fruit Piece - Baptist [added subsequently]", divided by Snyers and "Baptist" Flower Piece and thence by descent; given by Philip Yorke III (1905 – 1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
