Summary
Oil painting. An oil painting on canvas, The Expulsion of Adam and Eve (after Adriaen van der Werff), possibly by Peter van der Werff (1665 - 1722), the artist's brother, and painted after a lost original painted for Elector Jan Wellem of the Palatinate, Adriaen's prime patron, for his gallery in Düsseldorf.
Provenance
In the house inventory of the late James Hutton, uncle of Philip Yorke I (1743 - 1804), Park Lane, 26/27 July 1770, as; 'Adam and Eve driving out of Paradise by Vanderwerf, probably bought by his father Matthew Hutton'; also on undated 19th century (around 1820, at time of house picture cleaning) Erddig Inventory (D/E/288) and thence by descent; given by Philip Yorke III (1905 – 1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
