Summary
Pier glass. An early Georgian, rectangular, beveled, plated pier glass or wall mirror, probably by John Belchier, circa1720. The gilt gesso frame is carved and modelled with strapwork, shells, scrolls and foliage on a hatched ground and the shaped, scrolled pediment is surmounted by a foliated cartouche centred by a stylized, plumed medallion.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
