Summary
A girandole. A George I, carved and silvered gesso girandole, supplied by John Belchier. The twin divided, bevelled plates are within wide, bevelled, mirror glass borders. The inner and outer frames are gesso, and are carved with stiff leaves and interlaced rosettes, with scrolls at the four corners. The outer framework is of moulded, plain form. The cresting is carved with strapwork, scrolling foliage and with broken pediment, centred by an eagle perched on a lambrequin. The lower part of the frame has strapwork and scrolling foliage, centred by a scrolled cartouche and flanked by eagle masks. It is on a pine base, and appointed with four brass sockets (probably not original).
