Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Figures spearing a Lion devouring a fallen Rider, with a Dead Lion and other Horsemen by Dirck van Bergen (Haarlem c.1645 – Haarlem c.1690), 1675/77. A lion, centre, has pulled a man off his white horse, on the right, and is mauling him, two equestrian hunters with spears are on either side of the lion and are about to plunge their spears into him. Three more riders are following them on the road, on the right. Large boulders with shrubs and trees are on the left of the road and on the right are palm trees and other vegetation with a distant horizon in the centre with a cloudy sky.

First mentioned in 'A true Inventary of his Grace the Duke of Lauderdale’s Goods in Ham-house', taken the 4th of August 1679: in “The Green Drawing Roome. Three fixt Landskips” ; ownership transferred to The National Trust, 2002
