Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Louisa Tollemache, Countess of Dysart (1745-1840) (after Katherine Read) by Moses Haughton the elder (Wednesbury 1734 - Ashted, near Birmingham 1804) or Moses Haughton the younger (Wednesbury 1772/4 - 1848), a painted inscription, top right: Louisa Countess of Dysart, Born July 2, 1745, died September 22nd 1840 and in ink on label: The right Honble Lady Louisa Manners copied by Moses Haughton from an original Picture by Miss Reed...[in different ink] which was painted about the year 1761 when Louisa Tollemache was about 16. A half-length portrait of a young woman, turned to the left, head inclined to the left, shyly gazing at the spectator, her blonde hair loose and falling in ringlets on her right shoulder, she wears a loose gown patterned with gold, and a gold shawl with a blue lining which she holds to her bosom with her right hand.

In 1911 catalogue and thence by descent until acquired in 1948 by HM Government when Sir Lyonel, 4th Bt (1854 – 1952) and Sir Cecil Tollemache, 5th Bt (1886 – 1969) presented Ham House to the National Trust, and entrusted to the care of the Victoria & Albert Museum, until 1990, when returned to the care of the National Trust, and to which ownership was transferred in 2002
