Summary
Oil painting on copper, Putti enacting a Bacchanalian Scene by Otto van Veen (Leyden 1556 - Brussels 1629). A group of seven putti in a landscape, one of whom, with a wreath of vine leaves on his head and an apple in his left hand, is being held aloft by four others. The putto at the far right is playing a pipe.
Provenance
In 1683 inventory as '113 A Bacchanaly of Octavo Rene' and thence by descent until acquired in 1948 by HM Government when Sir Lyonel, 4th Bt (1854 – 1952) and Sir Cecil Tollemache, 5th Bt (1886 – 1969) presented Ham House to the National Trust, and entrusted to the care of the Victoria & Albert Museum, until 1990, when returned to the care of the National Trust, and to which ownership was transferred in 2002
