Summary
One of three embroidered panels from ecclesiastical vestments worked in colours with metal threads with the Almighty and saints in architectural landscapes - 15th century. A section of an orphrey showing one and a half sections. The upper, complete image shows a male figure of a prophet facing to the right, wearing a tunic and holding a scroll. He is standing in an arch within a medieval castle wall. In the lower, incomplete image is depicted the head and shoulders of a figure of a bishop and saint, with a mitre and halo, facing towards the left, set within a similar architectural setting. The embroidery is carried out in fine silk floss embroidery using long & short / split stitch, in greens, yellows, some blue and dark outlines. The background areas and tunic of the man the embroidery is laid goldthread secured in patterns with yellow and some orange silk thread. The figures and central detail of architecture are carried out in appliqué with two layers of linen.
