Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Two Boys as Naked Putti Hunting by British (English) School or British (Irish) School, 17th century. Two full-length naked boys, left, both striding to right, the first - centre - with outstretched arms, a bow in his left hand and a sash tied across his chest from his right shoulder and across his waist serving to hold a quiver of arrows at his left hip, he is following by the second boy holding, in his left hand, a couple of leads attached to two dogs and in his right a flute. He is also dressed in a sash which crosses his chest from his left shoulder and a short flowing drape. Both wear 'classical' sandals. There are two further dogs on the right. In a landscape with ruins and a waterfall to right.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959
