Oil painting on canvas, Lord Henry Cavendish (1673-1700), manner of Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646/9 - London 1723). A three-quarter length portrait, turned to the right, head facing, wearing armour with a gold sash at the waist, his left hand on his hip, his right resting on a plinth.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959
