Caption
The sitter was the second daughter of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire (1748-1811) and Georgiana Spencer (1757-1806). In 1809 she married Lord Granville Leveson-Gower (1773-1846), created Earl Granville on 10 May, 1833. She died on 25 November 1862. Thomas Barber had a wide practice in the Midlands and the North of England, where most of his pictures remain.

A half-length portrait of the second daughter of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire (1748-1811) and Georgiana Spencer (1757-1806), facing, wearing turban, dark blue decollete dress, red shawl over her right shoulder, her right hand resting on the arm of her chair. She married Lord Granville Leveson-Gower (1773-1846), created Earl Granville on 10 May, 1833, on 14 December, 1809.

In 1845 handbook and by desecent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959
