Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick (1587 – 1658), by Daniel Mytens the Elder (Delft c.1590 – The Hague 1648), 1633, inscribed mid-right, in grey, at level of sword-hilt: ROBERT ERLE OF WARWICKE / ÆTAT. 45. Ao 1633. A full- length portrait, standing, turned slightly to the right by a table, wearing richly embroidered doublet, white ruff, red breeches, cloak and hose, his left arm in his cloak, his right hand on his hip.
Provenance
In 1845 Handbook; and thence by descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
