Summary

Oil painting on canvas (oval), Elizabeth Barry (1668-1713) as 'Zara' in William Congreve's 'The Mourning Bride' (1697), British (English) School, 18th century. A lady is standing in a room declaiming, wearing a silver grey embroidered dress. Elizabeth Barry created the role of Zara in Congreve's Mourning Bride, first produced in 1697.
