Summary
Oil painting on panel, Prince Frederick Henry, Crown Prince Palatine (1614–1629) by Jan Anthonisz van Ravensteyn (The Hague c.1570 – The Hague 1669). Half-length portrait, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing full armour, with falling ruff collar, white lace cuffs and sash across right shoulder. Right hand palm placed flat on hip, left hand leaning on table on which rests plumed helmet which dominates right of picture.
Provenance
Recorded in Green Bedchamber in around.1778. Purchased in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). On loan to the National Trust from the National Heritage Memorial Fund 1987-1988. Gifted to the National Trust in 1988 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
