Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Edward the Black Prince serving Supper to his Prisoner King John II of France by Biagio Rebecca (1735 - 1808). One of a set of four of scenes from English history. Prince Edward, Prince of Wales, ‘The Black Prince’ (1330–1375) captured King John II (The Good) of France (1319-1364) at the Battle of Poitiers. King John surrendered by handing Edward his glove. That night King John dined in the red silk tent of his enemy and it appears the Black Prince attended to him personally.
