Summary
Oil painting on canvas (grisaille), Helen going to the Field accompanied by Paris, British (English) School,1759-1769. Helen and Paris at the Battle of Troy, scampering through the gates. A scene from 'The Iliad' by Homer. Two full-length figures, left and centre, both walking to the right, dressed in classical armour consisting of a breastplate, tunic, cloak, helmet and sandals; the left figure (Helen?), is turned to the right, right foot forward, has her shield on her back and carries a spear in her left hand; Paris, the central figure, is turned to the right, but his head is turned back to Helen; carries his shield on his left arm and carries a spear in his right hand; a building with pilasters and an arch is in the right, in front of which is shown the back half of a horse with rider, turned to the right.

Recorded in the Hall by 1769; bought with part of the contents of Kedleston Hall with the aid of the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) in 1986 when the house and park were given to the National Trust by Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000)
