Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Eleanor Curzon (1691-1754) by Michael Dahl (Stockholm 1656/9 – London 1743), inscribed, top right: Mrs Elenor Curzon, 1703 [sic]. A three-quarter-length portrait of the daughter of Sir Natanthiel Curzon, 2nd Bt, seated , turned slightly to the right, head inclined to the left, gazing at the spectator, facing. Wearing a loose wrap-over blue robe and holding a silver (?) box in right hand, her left arm is resting on a table on the right. Drape descending from top left.
Provenance
Bought by George Nathaniel Curzon, Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, Earl Curzon of Kedleston, 1st Viscount Scarsdale and 1st Baron Ravensdale (1859-1925) in 1920, with a provenance from the de la Zouches who were descendants of Eleanor Curzon’s nephew, Assheton Curzon, 1st Viscount Curzon (1729-1830); bought with part of the contents of Kedleston with the aid of the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) in 1987 when the house and park were given to the National Trust by Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000)
