Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Ruth and Boaz by William Hamilton RA (Chelsea 1751 – London 1801), inscribed: G.Hamilton [erroneously]. It depicts the biblical story from the Old Testament of Book of Ruth gleaning the harvest fields and Boaz, the man standing and owner of the fields, whom she eventually marries (Ruth 2-4).
Provenance
Recorded on Great Staircase, west side in 1802. Purchased in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). On loan to the National Trust from the National Heritage Memorial Fund 1987-1988. Purchased by the National Trust in 1988 from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
