Summary
A Kashmiri box for holding a photo album of the 1903 Delhi Durbar. The box is decorated with red, white and blue flowers with gilt on a black ground, in the centre there is a medallion with an inscription in gilt. The interior is lined with red silk. 'An album of photographs illustrating Delhi Coronation Durbar, January 1st, 1903 - inscribed and dated, in lacquered wood box - Kashmir (1959 Box only)' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
