Caption
The memorial at Blaise was erected by John Scandret Harford junior in 1815 as a memorial to his father. John Scandret Harford senior was a wealthy Bristol banker, merchant and Quaker who bought the Blaise Castle Estate in 1789 for £13,000. He used his wealth to enlarge and transform the estate. The cottages in the Hamlet were designed by John Nash and part of a series of improvements supervised by Humphrey Repton.
