Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on vard, Elizabeth Ellis, Mrs John Matthews (1757-1823) and her Children Ellen Matthews (b.c.1782) and Charles Skinner Matthews (1785-1811), British (English) School, c.1785. Oval. Mrs Matthews, three-quarter-length portrait, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, seated on a pale-blue upholstered chair, holding the baby Charles on her lap on the right, her daughter standing in the centre, both gazing at the spectator. Mrs Matthews wearing a blue dress with white collar and pale blue bow, blue eyes, powdered hair with white muslin cap. By the same hand as SIZ.P.108? (the frames are also identical).
