Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Colonel, Dr John Matthews, MP (1755-1826), British (English) School. c.1780. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing to the left, wearing a blue coat with gilt buttons, white waistcoat edged with gold, white neckcloth. Brown eyes, white hair in crest, bald pate, ruddy complexion, aged about 40. One of four Matthews miniatures, mounted together in black velvet.
